What the law sais: Which training is required to be authorised to detain a dog?

Website of the Swiss federal veterinary Service:

Theoretical training (art. 68 al. 1 OPAn):
Anyone who has never owned a dog before has to follow a theoretical training before the acquisition of the dog. This course lasts at least four hours, will inform you about the needs of the animal, on the way to treat it correctly and on the time and money investment it represents. It is therefore an awareness course. People who already owned a dog before do not need to follow this training.

Practical training (art. 68 al. 2 OPAn):
Anyone who acquires a dog, even if he already has another one, must follow the practical course in the year after the dog's acquisition. During this course, the new owner will learn how to keep his animal under control in daily life situations, identify and avoid risky situations and deal with potential behaviour problems. This practical course lasts a minimum of four hours. Before getting the dog, the future dog owner must produce a attestation of competance proving that they have acquired the knowledge on how to detained and treat dogs. The people who can prove that they have already had a dog before the 1 of September 2008 do not need to follow this theoretical training.
